Can I convert my wood-burning fireplace to gas?
Yes, though in Brevard the first question is fuel: this is propane country, so most conversions here set up a propane supply to the firebox rather than tapping a gas main. From there you choose ambiance or heat — and given Brevard's timber-frame cabins and mountain-modern builds, we install everything from a simple log set to a luxury propane centerpiece.
Propane changes the appliance, not the idea
Out here in Transylvania County, most homes are off the natural-gas main, so a conversion means bringing propane to the firebox — setting the regulator, piping, and appliance, and coordinating the tank itself with your propane supplier. Propane burns hotter per unit and needs its own orifices and pressures, which is part of why the fuel side is licensed work. For a cabin around Connestee Falls or Sherwood Forest, the Kozy Heat Springfield 36 is the right call for propane-country heat. For a timber-frame or mountain-modern home that wants a showpiece, the Mendota FullView FV41 with hand-cast ceramic-fiber logs is the most convincing wood-fire look we sell.
Transylvania rain is hard on chimneys
Brevard sees 80-plus inches of rain a year, and it shows up in the masonry — cracked crowns, spalled brick, rusted dampers, and moisture-damaged chimney chases and crawl spaces, worst during the wet March-to-June stretch. When we convert an old wood firebox to a sealed insert, we address that flue with a stainless liner and a proper cap so water is not still working on it. And if the existing masonry is too far gone, a direct-vent insert vents out a sidewall and sidesteps the old chimney entirely.
One licensed company, Transylvania permit
Rather than stitching the job across a showroom, a mason, and someone licensed to make it burn, we handle the appliance, the propane line, the liner, the permit with Transylvania County, and the inspection under one roof. Brevard is about 40 minutes southwest of us. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
