Many Backgrounds. One Standard.

Can you negotiate the price of a fireplace at a dealer?

You can always ask, but hearth pricing doesn't have car-lot margin hiding in it — the equipment cost is largely set by the manufacturer, and the labor is licensed gas work nobody should be discounting. The real money moves are choosing a different unit tier, simplifying the vent or gas-line run, and asking about floor models — not haggling the same quote downward.

Why the sticker doesn't bend much

A fireplace quote is mostly hard costs stacked up: the appliance at dealer cost, venting components, gas piping, permit fees, and the hours of a licensed crew. There's no bloated number in there waiting for a confident negotiator. When a dealer does knock a big chunk off after you push, it's worth asking what just left the job — because on gas work, the corners that get cut are pressure testing, permits, and time, and those are the corners that matter.

The levers that actually move the number

Unit tier is the biggest. The same wall can hold a Heatilator Novus nXt — a solid, honest value — or a hand-built Mendota FullView, and the spread between them is enormous compared to any discount you'd ever negotiate. Placement is second: a fireplace on an exterior wall near existing gas costs meaningfully less than one requiring a long line and a complicated vent path. Third, ask about floor models — showroom display units do get refreshed, and a display-model deal is a legitimate discount with a new warranty, unlike a used unit. Timing helps too; the calendar is friendlier in spring than during the October rush.

Notice what all these have in common: they change the job, not the margin. That's the honest way the number comes down.

How we handle it

No pressure and no upselling — we'd rather get you the right appliance than the most expensive one, and we'll say plainly when the cheaper unit is the right call. What we won't do is pad a quote so there's theater room to "discount" it later. If budget is the constraint, tell us the number first; designing to a budget beats negotiating toward one every time. Financing is also available for qualified buyers. Call (828) 545-0525 or come walk the Asheville showroom.
