Do electric fireplaces cost much to repair, or do you just replace them?

It depends on the unit's class. Inexpensive wall-mount electrics usually aren't worth repairing — a new electric unit can be a few hundred dollars, so a service call plus parts gets you most of the way to new. Name-brand built-ins have parts support for years; bargain units often don't, and that alone answers the repair-or-replace question.

If you're replacing anyway, pause on one question

A swap-out is the natural moment to ask whether electric still fits the job.
