In Candler, it depends where you are — the Enka-Candler corridor reaches natural gas, but plenty of Candler runs on propane out toward Hominy Valley and Pisgah Highway. Either way, a gas fire pit or outdoor fireplace's fuel line is licensed work permitted through Buncombe County. A wood-burning pit usually needs no mechanical permit, but county setbacks and open-burning rules still apply.
