Yes — and in Brevard the fuel side is worth planning early. Whether your downtown home taps a gas line or your cabin runs propane, setting a log set into an existing fireplace is a new fuel connection, and Transylvania County permits and inspects it. The permit covers that connection and its pressure test, not the firebox itself.
Propane country meets a very wet climate
Out toward Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and the cabins, Brevard runs largely on propane, with natural gas closer to downtown. On propane we coordinate the tank with your supplier, set the regulator and line pressures, and make sure the log set is built for LP — a set piped for natural gas will soot and burn wrong. All of that is licensed gas work in North Carolina; a mason or showroom can hand you beautiful logs but legally can't connect them to fuel. We can, we permit the line, and we pressure-test it.
Why the moisture makes a professional install matter
Transylvania takes 80-plus inches of rain a year, and it's hard on hearths — crowns crack, dampers rust, and chimney chases and crawl spaces stay damp well into summer.
