Weaverville, North Carolina

Do I need to relight the pilot after my propane tank runs empty or the gas is shut off for service, and is there air in the line to work through?

Yes on both, and in Weaverville the relight you'll do depends a lot on how new your home is. Whenever the gas is cut — a service shut-off downtown or a propane appliance out in the county running dry — the flame goes out and must come back once supply returns, and air in the line has to purge before the burner will stay lit.

Reems Creek's New Builds Light by Switch

The rapid new construction around Reems Creek almost all came with sealed, modern gas fireplaces on electronic ignition — often battery-backup units like the Napoleon Ascent that will still spark with the power out. After a gas interruption there's no pilot to hold a flame to; you switch it on and the igniter fires. With air in the line it may spark and fault a few cycles before catching. Reset per the remote or wall switch, pause, and let the air clear instead of hammering the button.

Downtown's Older Fireboxes Light by Hand

Weaverville's older downtown homes still run inefficient original masonry fireboxes and standing-pilot conversions, which you relight through the printed OFF-PILOT-ON steps — hold the knob down while the pilot sputters and finally holds as the air works out. A dozen tries is plenty; past that, suspect a clogged orifice or a tired thermocouple rather than stubborn air, and stop forcing it.

Propane and Professional Help

If it's a propane place north of town that ran empty, your supplier must leak-and-pressure-test the system before you relight — that's required, not optional. We're a licensed gas contractor 15 minutes north and pull the permit with Buncombe County. If the fireplace won't light after a proper restore, call (828) 545-0525.
