Swannanoa Valley temperature inversions routinely leave you ten to fifteen degrees colder than Asheville at dawn, so a pellet stove kicks on harder and longer. When that first cold snap settles into the valley, everyone tops off at once and stock thins, so get your season in during the fall.

Buying your winter's worth ahead of that keeps you supplied through the long tail of the season.
Storage in the shade of Montreat
Up toward Montreat and Ridgecrest, heavily wooded lots keep homes cool, shaded, and damp — pleasant in July, a hazard for a pallet of pellets. Keep sealed bags off the ground in a dry garage or shed, well away from anything that stays moist under the tree canopy or catches roof runoff.
