How do I turn the blower on and off on my gas fireplace?
Most gas fireplace blowers switch on and off with a control on the remote, a wall switch, a variable-speed knob behind the lower louver, or automatically via a heat sensor. Look first for a fan or blower button on your remote. If there's no obvious control, the blower is likely on an automatic thermostat that runs it once the firebox heats up.
Where your blower control lives
Gas fireplace blowers are set up a few different ways, so the answer depends on your unit. Many remote-equipped models — Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Majestic — put a fan or blower button right on the handset, sometimes with speed steps. Others use a separate wall switch or a rheostat, a round variable-speed dial tucked behind the lower grille or louver that turns the blower on and adjusts its speed in one control. And a lot of blowers run fully automatically off a snap-disc thermostat: you don't switch them on at all, they kick in on their own once the firebox is hot and shut off after it cools. If you can't find a control, yours is almost certainly automatic.
Automatic blowers work on a delay — that's normal
If your blower is the automatic kind, don't expect it to run the instant you light the fire. The snap-disc sensor waits until the firebox reaches temperature — usually several minutes — before it powers the fan, so it's blowing warm air, not cold. Likewise, after you shut the fire off, the blower keeps running a while to clear the leftover heat, then stops itself. Both of those are the system doing its job, not a fault.
If the blower won't run or won't quit
A blower that never comes on, rattles, or runs constantly points to a specific part — usually the snap-disc, the variable-speed control, or the blower motor itself, and after an off-season the fan can gum up with the same dust WNC fireplaces collect.
