How long do fireplace permits and inspections take in the Asheville area?

In Clyde the common project is an insert upgrade, and that sets the timeline. Haywood County permits standard fireplace work quickly, but this town's 1960s-to-'80s ranch homes came with dated fireboxes, and dropping in a modern sealed insert usually means a correctly sized liner, which adds an inspection stage a straightforward gas swap skips.

Ranch-house inserts, and the liner stage

Clyde's housing is mostly 1960s-through-'80s ranches, and a huge share of them still have the original, dated fireplace, decorative, drafty, and ready for better. The standard fix is a sealed gas or wood insert, commonly 70 percent efficient or better, and it almost always needs a correctly sized liner. That liner is the timeline variable: it can carry a rough-in inspection before the final sign-off, so a Clyde insert upgrade runs a little longer than a simple new-appliance swap. Worth it, you go from a heat-losing box to a real heater.

Haywood County and river-valley damp

Permits are pulled with Haywood County, about 25 minutes west of our Emma Road showroom. Clyde shares the lower Pigeon valley's habits, cold air drains into it and river humidity hangs around, and that damp rusts dampers and degrades masonry faster than in drier towns. So before we set a new insert, we look hard at the existing flue and firebox; finding a failed liner or a rusted damper up front, in an off-season assessment, beats discovering it mid-install. The gas connection itself is licensed work we permit and pressure-test, a mason legally can't.

Mixed fuel, plan the connection

Fuel here is mixed, some homes on a gas main, plenty on propane. If yours is propane, the connection adds a step: a licensed hookup we permit and pressure-test, plus a tank coordinated through your supplier. And at 2,600 feet the cold arrives early, so the calendar advice is the usual mountain rule, book in late summer, ahead of both the first snap and the fall rush. Call (828) 545-0525.
