How often should a wood stove be professionally serviced?

In Candler, keeping a wood stove serviced is partly about the air everyone breathes. Hominy Valley sits in a natural bowl that traps woodsmoke, so a dirty, smoldering stove doesn't just waste your wood — it hangs over the hollow. Annual sweeping and a tune for clean combustion is the baseline, and it's neighborly as much as it's safe.

A bowl that holds the smoke

Hominy Valley's geography pools air — good for trapping woodsmoke, bad for anyone downwind of a poorly burning stove. A stove that smolders because of a leaky gasket, a choked flue, or wet wood puts out far more particulate than a clean, hot fire, and in a valley bowl that smoke lingers. Our service tunes the stove to burn clean: a sealing door gasket, a clear flue, sound firebrick and baffle, and a catalytic combustor kept working if the stove has one. About an eighth of an inch of creosote is the practical point to sweep, whatever the date. Clean combustion is both the efficient way to burn and the considerate one here.

New subdivisions, upgrade appetite

Candler is growing fast, and a lot of those new homes came with basic decorative fireboxes that owners quickly want to turn into real heat — often a sealed EPA wood stove or insert. Whichever you land on, the maintenance logic is the same: annual sweep and inspection, with the flue and hardware checked before the cold. A sealed, clean-burning appliance is the right call for a valley that doesn't disperse smoke well, and keeping it tuned is what preserves that. Call (828) 545-0525.

Book the sweep before fall

Late summer is the window — the stove is cold, the schedule is open, and a worn part gets found before the first fire rather than during it. Candler is 15 minutes west of our Asheville showroom, and we permit any new stove or insert through Buncombe County.
