Asheville proper is a natural-gas town — the mains run through much of the city, and if your street is served, natural gas means no tank, no deliveries, and one less thing to schedule. But the city's geography is honest about its limits. Climb the ridges above North Asheville, follow the coves west of town, and the mains quit — that's where propane earns its keep, with fuel sitting in a tank on your own property. Two housing eras, two LP answers
Montford and North Asheville hold historic homes with original masonry fireplaces, and there the LP conversation usually runs through the existing hearth — a sealed gas insert with a correctly sized liner that keeps the mantel and loses the draft.
