What's the best time of year to install an outdoor fire feature?
Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot. Dry ground makes trenching a gas line easier, masonry and concrete cure faster in warm weather, and your feature is ready before WNC's cool evenings set in. We install year-round, but booking a few weeks ahead of the season you actually want it beats scrambling in October.
Why the warm months win
Two things about an outdoor fire feature care about weather, and neither is the fire itself. The first is the gas line — running and burying an outdoor-rated line to your patio or fire pit means opening a trench, and frozen or saturated mountain ground fights you every foot. The second is the hardscape. Stacked stone, mortar, and poured concrete all cure best in warm, dry conditions, and a masonry outdoor fireplace needs that cure before we set the logs and connect the gas.
Spring through early fall gives you dry soil, fast cures, and a comfortable install for everyone on site.
Beat the seasonal rush
Here's the honest part: the phones light up the first cold snap. Everyone wants their fire pit or outdoor fireplace ready the week the evenings turn, which is exactly when the calendar is tightest. If you plan the build for summer, you sidestep the crowd and you're enjoying it by the first cool night.
And in these mountains, that season is long. Elevation keeps our evenings cool most of the year — a fire feature earns its keep from early spring straight through the fall, so an off-season install still pays off quickly.
When we'd install in winter anyway
None of this means you have to wait. If your enclosure is already built and the ground isn't frozen solid, we'll run the line and set the burner in the dead of January. New builds are a common winter case — if a slab or patio is going in now, roughing the gas stub while the ground is already open is smart, whatever the month.
