Black Mountain, North Carolina

What time of year is best to have a chimney swept?

For Black Mountain, late summer through early fall is the target, and there's a local wrinkle: Swannanoa Valley inversions leave your mornings 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville's, and spring frost lingers late. You fire up earlier and later than the city does, so sweep on the early side — August or September — before those cold valley mornings arrive.

The valley runs cold early

Cold air pools in the Swannanoa Valley overnight, so Black Mountain and Montreat wake up well below what Asheville sees, and frost hangs on later into spring. That stretches your burning season on both ends and means the first chilly morning sneaks up sooner than the calendar suggests. Getting swept by early fall keeps you ahead of it.

The heavily wooded lots around Montreat add a twist — shade keeps those houses cool and damp, which is hard on masonry and invites moisture into the flue, so the inspection is worth as much as the brushing.

What the visit covers

Black Mountain is on natural gas, so a good share of homes want an annual appliance service on a sealed unit. The older masonry fireplaces downtown and up the valley get the full sweep and a level inspection for creosote and cracked tile.

If we find damage, we pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector on any gas-line repair. You're only 15 minutes east of our Asheville showroom at 629 Emma Rd, so scheduling is easy. Call (828) 545-0525.

Spring works too

Right after you stop burning, a sweep clears acidic creosote before it corrodes tile through the summer and pulls out any nesting material before birds settle into a damp, shaded flue. Come the next cold snap, you're lighting a clean, inspected fire.
