Which is the bigger installation job — gas logs, a gas insert, or a full fireplace replacement?

In Arden the ranking holds — logs smallest, insert middle, full replacement biggest — and this is one of the clearest insert towns we serve. The 1980s-90s open masonry fireplaces across Royal Pines and Skyland are drafty heat-losers, and dropping a sealed insert into them is the textbook fix: real warmth from a box that used to pull heat out of the room.

The classic Arden insert story

Homes built in Skyland and Royal Pines a few decades back nearly all got an open masonry fireplace, and open masonry is the least efficient hearth there is — with the damper open it can run an outright net heat loss, quietly pulling warm air up the flue all winter. A sealed gas insert is the middle tier and the sweet spot here: a new full-height liner, a surround over the old opening, and suddenly you've got a heater running 70 percent efficient or better. A vented log set is the lighter option when you're after the flame more than the furnace.

When Arden goes bigger — or smaller

A vented log set stays the smallest job if you just want ambiance in a firebox that's already there. A full replacement is the rare big-tier case — for a firebox that can't be relined, or a homeowner who wants a modern linear look built into a new wall. Most Arden houses never need to go that far; the insert does the job and does it for decades, which is why we'll usually talk you out of the bigger project if the box is sound.

Natural gas, Buncombe permit, 15 minutes south

The line extension is licensed work — permitted with Buncombe County, pressure-tested, inspected — and we're just down the road, so the free assessment is quick to book. A showroom can sell the firebox; only a licensed gas contractor can legally connect it to fuel. Call (828) 545-0525.
