Wood is a relationship. Every season means sourcing and stacking cordwood, hauling it in, carrying ash out, and watching the firebrick and damper for wear — and every year means a chimney sweep, because creosote building up in the flue is how chimney fires start. A year of gas ownership

The one non-negotiable for both

Whichever fuel you burn, annual service is standard — late summer or early fall, before you're depending on it. Service is preventive; repair is what happens when you skip it. An annual inspection per CSIA and NFPA standards is what keeps a wood flue safe and a gas system tight, and it's how small, inexpensive fixes stay small.
