Who inspects a new gas fireplace installation in WNC, and what does the inspector check?

In Arden, a Buncombe County inspector approves the gas work — and a lot of it here is converting tired open masonry fireplaces in Royal Pines and Skyland into sealed gas inserts. On those, the inspector checks the liner and venting closely, along with a gas line sized to the appliance, pressure-tested, and leak-free at every connection.

From heat-loser to real heater

Arden's 1980s and '90s homes in Royal Pines, Skyland, and Glenn Bridge mostly came with open masonry fireplaces that pull warm air out of the room and lose heat up the flue. Dropping in a sealed gas insert flips that — and shifts the inspection toward the liner: sized to the new appliance, terminating above a sound flue, with the venting and clearances matching the unit's listing. Because Arden's on a natural-gas main, most of these tap a branch off existing service, which the inspector confirms is sized and holds a pressure test.

Biltmore Park's commercial side

Arden isn't only homes — Biltmore Park's retail and office space brings commercial fireplace and outdoor-feature work too. Those installs go through the same Buncombe County permit and inspection, usually with larger loads and venting terminations that have to clear a bigger building. Same code, same pressure test, same accountable licensed contractor whether it's a townhouse or an office lobby.

Fifteen minutes south, permit to sign-off

We pull the Buncombe County permit, run and pressure-test the branch line, set the insert or appliance, and meet the inspector — 15 minutes south of our Asheville showroom. In NC, connecting a fireplace to gas is licensed work; a mason can rebuild your firebox beautifully but legally can't make it burn. One licensed gas contractor owns the appliance, the line, the permit, and the inspection. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free assessment.
