Why does mounting a TV above a gas fireplace depend on the unit's heat management design?
Because a gas fireplace throws heat straight up the wall above it, and that rising heat — often well over 100°F at the mantel — can cook a TV's electronics or warp its housing. Whether a TV can safely go above depends on how the unit manages heat: cool-wall and top-vented designs redirect heat forward or out a chase, keeping the wall above cool enough; standard radiant fronts don't.
