A century-old Montford home that has added a furnace, range, and dryer over the years can sit near its meter's limit, while newer South Asheville builds were sized with headroom to spare.

The math lands differently across town. In Montford, North Asheville, and older West Asheville streets, houses picked up gas appliances one at a time across decades, and the original meter was never sized to carry a fireplace on top of the rest. We inventory everything you already run, add the fireplace's draw, and check whether the meter and service still have the volume to feed it all at once. Newer construction down in South Asheville usually does, because those builders left margin. The paper answer comes before the fire ever gets hung.
