A cord of wood is heavy and bulky, and a truck can't always back up to these houses, so hauling and stacking it becomes real labor. Pellets come in stackable 40-pound bags you can carry a few at a time up a steep path, and a hopper holds around a day's worth. On a hard-access lot, that's a practical advantage worth naming — one of the few settings where the logistics genuinely favor pellet.

The trade-off doesn't vanish, though. A pellet stove runs on electricity, and when a storm drops the power in the gorge it stops heating. A wood stove keeps going with nothing plugged in — the more independent choice if reliability outranks convenience for you.

Draft, permits, and a site visit
