Are Jotul stoves still made in Norway?
Yes. Jotul still casts its stoves at its own foundry in Norway — its historic home in Fredrikstad, where the company has made cast iron since 1853. It also runs production in North America, at its plant in Gorham, Maine, so a given model may be built stateside or in Norway depending on the line. Either way it's genuine Jotul iron.
Norwegian roots, global reach
Jotul is one of the oldest hearth names on earth, and the Norwegian foundry in Fredrikstad is still the heart of it. Over the years the company added production and brands in other markets, including its US operation in Gorham, Maine, so made-in-Norway isn't universal across every model — but the castings, engineering, and quality standard trace back to the same Scandinavian playbook. Does it change how the stove performs?
Not in any way you'll feel by the fire. A Jotul built in Maine is held to the same specs as one poured in Fredrikstad — same cast-iron design, same EPA-clean fireboxes, same long even heat. What actually decides how well the stove runs in your home is sizing and install: a stove matched to the room and vented correctly. In our mountains draft is trickier — ridges, tall trees, and cold flues cause downdrafts — so setup matters more than the stamp on the casting.
