Can I convert my wood-burning fireplace to gas?
Yes, and Weaverville gives us two very different projects. In the older downtown, homes carry inefficient original masonry fireboxes that beg for a sealed gas insert; out in the fast-growing Reems Creek subdivisions, we are often adding a clean, modern gas unit as part of a build or remodel. Natural gas serves much of the area, so most conversions here run straight off the main.

The original masonry fireboxes in Weaverville's older downtown homes were never efficient heaters — left open, they can run a net heat loss as warm room air escapes up the chimney. Converting one to a sealed gas insert like the Napoleon Oakville X4 flips that: it closes off the opening, runs a stainless liner, and delivers 70 percent efficiency or better. It matters more here than you might think, because Weaverville's north-facing valley warms up slowly in spring, so the heating season lingers. Ox Creek and the downtown blocks are full of these candidates.
Reems Creek and the new-build options
The other Weaverville is the new construction spreading through Reems Creek and out Barnardsville Road. In those homes we are often doing more than a swap — building a fireplace where the design calls for one. A Heat and Glo 6000CLX makes a clean-face anchor for a modern great room, and where a builder-grade box is already in place and you just want the wood-fire look, a Real Fyre vented log set is the simpler ambiance route.
The licensed line and a Buncombe permit
