Maggie Valley, North Carolina

Can I keep a Victorian or antique fireplace look while adding a modern insert?

Yes. In Maggie Valley the insert has two jobs — look right in a rustic cabin fireplace and light instantly for the next guest. It's propane-only country up here at 3,000-plus feet, so we set the unit for LP. Dropped into the existing stone firebox, it keeps the cabin's character while giving reliable, push-button heat behind a traditional front.

Propane heat that lights on the first try

Maggie Valley's cabins and vacation rentals sit idle for weeks, then have to fire up the moment guests arrive on one of the coldest ridges we serve. An open masonry fireplace is slow, smoky, and unpredictable for that; a sealed propane insert with reliable ignition lights every time. Inside the original stone opening the rustic firebox and mantel stay put, so the cabin still reads mountain-authentic while the heat behind it is modern and dependable.

Built for 3,000 feet and long-idle seasons

At this elevation the heating season is long and the units sit unused between bookings — which is exactly when spiders and dust clog a pilot assembly over the off-season. A cold-climate Kozy Heat unit, or a Valor with radiant, no-electricity heat, both read traditional behind a matte-black framed front and cast logs. We recommend a pre-season inspection before peak rental months so a rental never goes cold on a paying guest.

Haywood County permit, 40 minutes out

Propane piping and appliance hookup are licensed work — a mason or showroom legally can't connect the fuel. We pull the Haywood County permit, pressure-test the line, size the liner, and meet the inspector. For rental owners, that permitted paper trail protects the property. Call (828) 545-0525; Maggie Valley is 40 minutes west of our Asheville showroom.
