Can I replace an old builder-grade gas fireplace with a new model?

Yes — Candler's fast-growing subdivisions are full of basic decorative builder-grade fireboxes, and owners often want real heat within a few years of moving in. Replacing one with a modern sealed gas unit delivers that. We confirm your fuel first, since Candler runs a mix of gas and propane, and most swaps take a day.

Decorative box to real heater

A lot of Candler's new construction came with a builder-grade firebox that's more decoration than heat source — fine for looks, thin on output. As the newer subdivisions have filled in, we hear the same request: turn it into something that actually warms the room. A modern direct-vent replacement does that, with sealed combustion, better efficiency, and a flame worth looking at. We pull the old unit, check the framing and gas line, and set a properly sized fireplace matched to the space rather than to a builder's price target.

Confirm the fuel, and the air

Fuel in Candler isn't one-size-fits-all: some newer subdivisions reach a natural-gas line, while properties out toward Hominy Valley and the Pisgah Highway run on propane. That's the first thing we settle, because a propane unit needs different orifices and pressure than a natural-gas one, and getting it wrong means soot and poor performance. Hominy Valley's natural bowl can trap air, too, which is another argument for a clean-burning sealed appliance over an old open or vent-free setup. Connecting either fuel is licensed work we permit and pressure-test.

Buncombe permit, close to home

Replacing a fireplace needs a Buncombe County permit and inspection, both of which we handle. Candler is just 15 minutes west of the Emma Rd showroom, so getting out for an estimate is easy. Heatilator and Kozy Heat both make excellent replacements; call (828) 545-0525 or visit to compare.
