Can I replace my traditional fireplace with a modern linear one?

Yes, and in Brevard the swap usually starts with fuel. This is propane country — most homes outside the downtown core run on LP, not a gas main — so a replacement linear gets set up with propane orifices and pressures from the start. We pull the old firebox and frame in a sealed, direct-vent LP linear.

Propane country, done right

Out through Connestee Falls, Sherwood Forest, and the cabins around Pisgah Forest, propane is the rule, and it's not interchangeable with natural gas — LP burns hotter per unit and needs the correct orifices and regulator pressure or the flame soots and stains the glass. A linear like the Heat & Glo Cosmo 42 is available in propane and runs a clean ribbon flame when it's dialed in properly. The tank itself we coordinate with your propane supplier; the appliance connection is licensed gas work, and that's our lane.

And with the power-optional ignition many LP linears carry, the fire still lights when a storm knocks the grid down.

Moisture is the reason to seal it up

Brevard takes 80-plus inches of rain a year, and that weather is hard on masonry — cracked crowns, spalling brick, rusted dampers, and chimney chases that stay damp. If your traditional fireplace vents through a deteriorating chimney, a direct-vent linear is a clean exit: we cap the old flue and run the new unit's sealed pipe out a nearby sidewall, so the failing masonry stops being part of your heating system. We cap it correctly so the abandoned flue doesn't keep drawing water into the house.

Permit, inspection, accountability

A conversion touches demolition, framing, venting, a gas line, and a Transylvania County permit — we pull it and meet the inspector rather than splitting the work across trades. We're about 40 minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
