On the narrowest downtown buildings, the climb to the hearth is the whole challenge — and that's routine for a crew that installs across these mountains every week.

We're a licensed gas contractor, so wherever the appliance lands we run and pressure-test the gas line ourselves, permit with Madison County, and meet the inspector.

Draft in a river gorge

The French Broad gorge brings cool, damp evenings, and the tight terrain can complicate draft — cold air sitting in a chimney like a plug, or a downdraft off the ridge. On open fireplaces we look hard at how the flue actually pulls; a sealed direct-vent unit sidesteps downdraft entirely, which is often the right call on these lots.
