Keep it topped up before storm season and a direct-vent unit runs the whole time the grid is down.
Propane is the clock
Natural gas reaches closer to downtown Brevard, but much of Transylvania County is propane country, and that changes the outage question from "will it run" to "how long will it run." A millivolt or battery-backup gas fireplace doesn't care that the power's out — it'll keep throwing heat into the room for days — but propane is a finite supply in a tank, not an endless main.
