Can you add a fireplace to a house that has no gas service?

Where the main hasn't reached, propane does the same job, and wood or electric need no gas at all.

Or skip fuel-gas: a wood stove gives you grid-independent heat, and an electric unit runs off a standard circuit for supplemental warmth. Why we permit every job
It's tempting on a new build to let the general contractor hand the fireplace to whoever's cheapest, but running or extending a gas line is licensed work in North Carolina — and unpermitted gas or hearth work can void your insurance and complicate a resale.
