Can you put a wood stove in a mobile home?
Yes — and in Maggie Valley, where cabins and vacation rentals sit above 3,000 feet on propane, a wood stove that lights instantly for arriving guests is a real draw. It must be a model listed for manufactured-home use, with an outside-air kit, floor anchor, and listed Class A chimney. A standard wood stove without that listing isn't legal in a mobile home.
Idle for weeks, then depended on
Many Maggie Valley properties are rentals and second homes whose hearths sit cold for stretches, then have to perform the moment someone walks in during peak season. A wood stove in a manufactured home suits that if it's sized right and maintained ahead of the cold — we recommend a pre-season inspection before the rental months. At 3,000-plus feet this is one of the coldest communities we serve, so the stove has to actually heat, not just glow behind the glass.
Draft is harder this high
Establishing draft at elevation takes a properly built flue: a listed Class A insulated chimney with the correct ceiling-support box, roof support, and spark arrestor, terminated at the required height. The mandatory outside-combustion-air duct keeps a tightly sealed cabin from starving the fire, and the stove is anchored permanently to the floor. Above all, its data plate must read manufactured-home approved — a conventional stove can't legally be installed, and no inspector or insurer will accept one.
