Can you put a wood stove in a mobile home?

Mobile-home-approved, or nothing

Just like gas, the deciding factor is the appliance's own listing. A wood stove approved for manufactured homes has been tested and certified for that use, and its data plate says so. A conventional stove — even a great EPA-certified one — can't legally be installed in a mobile home unless it carries that listing. Inspectors check it, and so does your insurance carrier, who will often require professional installation and inspection of any wood-burning appliance.

Outside air and anchoring

Two requirements define a mobile-home wood stove. First, an outside combustion-air kit ducted directly to the firebox, because manufactured homes are tightly sealed and can't spare room air for a fire without going into negative pressure — which kills draft and can pull exhaust back inside. Second, the stove must be permanently secured to the floor so it can't shift. Both are baked into the mobile-home listing; a standard stove is built for neither.

Chimney and clearance specifics

The flue is a listed Class A insulated chimney with the correct ceiling-support box and roof support for a mobile-home roof, terminated at the required height with a spark arrestor. Clearances to the manufactured home's thin combustible walls are unforgiving, so listed heat shields often do the work of buying back space. It also sits on a hearth pad rated to the stove's specs.
