Do I need to register my fireplace to activate the warranty?
In most cases, yes — manufacturers want the unit registered, usually within a set window after installation, to activate the full warranty term. When Steady Flame installs yours, we handle registration for you: model, serial number, and install date all recorded. If you bought a unit elsewhere and installed it yourself, that registration falls on you, and missing the window can shorten your coverage.
What registration actually does
Registration ties your specific serial number to you and your install date, and for many brands it's what unlocks the full warranty length — some limited lifetime and multi-year terms only apply if the unit was registered promptly.
Skip it and you may drop to a shorter default period, or have to reconstruct proof of purchase later. It takes a few minutes and it's the cheapest insurance on a fireplace you'll ever buy.
We take care of it at install
When we install your fireplace, registering it is part of the job — we submit the model, serial, and installation date to the manufacturer and keep a copy in your file. You don't have to remember a deadline or dig the serial number off a rating plate behind the unit later.
This is one more reason single-source matters: the same company that connected the gas line also made sure the paperwork that protects it got filed. We hand you the confirmation with the rest of your documents.
If you bought it yourself
If you sourced a unit on your own and had it set, registration is your responsibility, and the clock is often tight — commonly a matter of weeks or months from purchase or install. Find the serial number on the rating plate, register per the manual, and keep the confirmation with your invoice.
And remember: in NC the gas connection still has to be made by a licensed contractor, so even a self-sourced unit needs us for the part that makes it burn. Call (828) 545-0525 and we'll sort out both.
