Do linear gas fireplaces put out as much heat as traditional gas fireplaces?
They can — heat comes from a model's BTU rating and efficiency, not its shape. Napoleon's Vector 50 linear delivers 40,000 BTU, exactly matching Heat & Glo's traditional 6000CLX. But plenty of linear units are styled as ambiance pieces with modest output, so compare spec sheets, not silhouettes — some five-foot showpieces heat less than a 36-inch workhorse.
Spec sheet beats silhouette
The mistake we correct most often at the counter is assuming a bigger sheet of glass means a bigger heater. It doesn't. A linear fireplace's width describes its flame presentation, not its output — the burner and heat exchanger behind the glass are what matter. That's why the 50-inch Vector and the 42-inch traditional 6000CLX land on the same 40,000 BTU. When you're shopping linear, read two numbers before you fall for the look: input BTUs and efficiency. Where linear heat behaves differently
Even at equal BTUs, the heat lands differently. That's a genuine feature for a media room and a mild tradeoff if what you want is a blast of warmth right at the hearth. Blowers help both formats push heat into the room, so ask about one either way.
Sizing it for a mountain room
