Do wood stoves come in colors?

Black is the default — enamel is the upgrade

Wood stoves ship in painted black as the standard because it hides soot and handles the constant heat cycling. The step up is porcelain enamel — a glass-hard coating fused to cast iron in a kiln. Enamel is a cast-iron tradition: lines we install and service, like Jotul and HearthStone, are known for it in colors like red, blue, brown, and ivory. Regency — a line we carry — leans the other way, toward clean black and gunmetal on its steel stoves.

Enamel doesn't just look richer — it shrugs off the rust that plagues bare metal in a damp mountain cabin, and it keeps its finish for decades.

What color costs you

The catch is availability and price. Not every stove offers every color, and enamel typically adds to the cost over plain black. Cast-iron stoves take enamel beautifully; welded-steel stoves are usually painted, which limits you to blacks and grays. If a specific color is driving your decision, tell us early — it narrows the model list fast, and we'd rather point you at a stove that actually comes in your color than talk you into a repaint later.

Living with a colored stove in WNC

Up here, a colored enamel stove earns its keep.
