Does a propane fireplace need different or more frequent maintenance than a natural gas one?

Propane changes the tune-up
On propane, the burner is where the attention goes. LP carries more energy per cubic foot and runs at a higher pressure than natural gas, so a Brevard cabin's fireplace uses smaller orifices and its own regulator. Get that setup wrong — an orifice meant for the wrong fuel, a conversion done by someone who guessed — and the flame runs rich and soots the logs and glass. On our Brevard calls we look hard at the orifices, the burner ports, and the connection coming off the tank. The tank itself is coordinated with your propane supplier; everything downstream of it is ours.
Then there is the rain
Transylvania takes 80-plus inches of rain a year, with a wet season that runs March into June, and it shows on hearths: cracked crowns, spalled brick, rusted dampers, and moisture creeping into the crawl spaces and chimney chases that this housing stock is prone to. The annual service is where we catch that corrosion before it becomes a draft or safety problem. It is also when a new gas line gets permitted with Transylvania County and inspected.
