Does having my chimney swept improve the air quality inside my house?
In Arden, the tired open masonry fireplaces in Royal Pines and Skyland are the crux. Drafty by design, they pull cold air into the room, and when creosote and debris clog the flue on top of that, woodsmoke spills back inside instead of drawing out. Sweeping clears the flue and restores draft. It won't, however, purify the home's general air.
Drafty by design, worse when dirty
Arden's 1980s and 90s homes in Royal Pines, Skyland, and Glenn Bridge were built with open masonry fireplaces, and by now many are tired, drafty enough to pull heat out of the room even when unused. That marginal draft is exactly what a dirty flue tips into failure: layer creosote and fallen debris over an already weak draw, and the smoke that should rise instead rolls back over the hearth and settles into the furniture. A sweep strips the buildup and gives the chimney the clear passage it needs to draft the byproducts out.
When clearing isn't enough
On these older open fireplaces, a sweep sometimes confirms the real fix is a sealed insert with a proper liner, closing off the drafty firebox and turning a room-cooling relic into a heater that keeps combustion sealed away from your living space entirely. Since Arden sits on natural-gas mains, a gas insert is often the move. As a licensed gas contractor we do the sweep, the inspection, and the gas and venting work as one accountable job.
Book it, and keep it real
Fall gas-log tune-ups and pre-holiday repairs are our peak here, so schedule the sweep in late summer or early fall to beat the rush. We're 15 minutes south of Emma Road. And be clear on the limit: a clean flue stops fireplace spillage and odor, not the everyday dust or pollen only a filter addresses. Call (828) 545-0525.
