Does high elevation affect gas fireplace installation or performance?

Yes — and Fairview is propane country, so altitude and fuel come as a pair. At about 2,375 feet, a propane fireplace needs its own hotter-burning orifices and pressures plus a high-altitude adjustment, or the flame runs rich, sooting the glass and losing heat. We dial both together on install so a Fairview unit burns as clean as it should.

Propane on the wooded lots

Out on Fairview's large wooded rural lots — up Cane Creek Valley, Garren Creek, and the Charlotte Highway corridor — most homes run on propane rather than a natural-gas main. Propane burns hotter per unit than natural gas and needs different orifices and pressures to begin with, and Fairview's 2,375-foot elevation adds another adjustment. Get one wrong and it soots; get the propane jets right but skip altitude and it still burns rich. We set the fuel and the elevation as a single job.

It's the same imbalance behind a wrong-fuel setup — too much fuel for the available air — just coming from the air side at altitude.

Wood heat and the creosote it leaves

Those same wooded lots make wood heat natural, and it's popular in Fairview — a Regency wood insert or stove gives grid-independent heat off your own land. The catch is upkeep: creosote buildup is the leading cause of chimney fires, and without a fall sweep it accumulates fast. We install and service wood units alongside gas, and we'll tell you honestly which one fits your home rather than push the pricier option.

Buncombe permits, 15 minutes east

We permit the propane or gas line with Buncombe County and meet the inspector — connecting fuel is licensed work, our lane and not a landscaper's. Fairview is about 15 minutes east of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
