Does high elevation affect gas fireplace installation or performance?

Yes — Fletcher sits at about 2,150 feet on the natural-gas main, and that elevation is enough that a gas fireplace needs its high-altitude orifice to burn clean. It's a factor in the 1990s subdivisions with builder-grade units and in the commercial buildings along the I-26 corridor alike; either way we jet to elevation at install.

Builder-grade in the subdivisions

Fletcher's 1990s-era subdivisions are full of builder-grade gas fireplaces, and a fair number were installed without adjusting for altitude. At 2,150 feet that shows up as a unit that soots its glass and never quite heats — the thin air runs the flame rich against a sea-level orifice. Homeowners upgrading a tired builder box, or adding a cleaner Napoleon or Heat & Glo, get it jetted to Fletcher's elevation so it performs to spec.

It's an install step, not an upgrade — the fireplace either had it done or it didn't.

Commercial demand near the airport

Fletcher sees more commercial hearth work than the residential communities around it — offices and businesses near the Airport Road corridor wanting gas fireplaces and outdoor gas features. Commercial or residential, the same altitude physics applies, and outdoor gas fire pits and patio heaters get the right orifice for the fuel too. Cane Creek and Fanning Bridge homes fall in the same 2,150-foot band, and new I-26 corridor construction keeps the demand steady.

Henderson County permits

We permit every gas line with Henderson County and meet the inspector — and on a commercial job especially, that permitted, inspected paper trail matters. As a licensed gas contractor about 20 minutes south of our Asheville showroom, running and connecting the gas is our lane, not a general contractor's.
