Gas, wood, or electric — which fireplace makes the most sense for a mountain cabin or second home that sits empty part of the year?
Many Mills River properties are rural large-lot places on propane, and for a part-time farmhouse out here propane direct-vent gas is the right core — it lights instantly when you're back, holds a safe low setting over the weeks you're gone, and keeps heating when the power drops. Wood is fine when the house is lived in; electric offers nothing once the grid fails.
Off the mains, on a tank
