How is a gas line run to an outdoor fire pit or outdoor fireplace?
We run outdoor-rated gas line from your fuel source — a natural-gas meter or a propane tank — out through the wall or underground to the feature, with a dedicated shut-off and a properly sized run for the flame you want. Below grade we use coated steel or approved buried pipe; above grade, hard pipe or CSST. All permitted, all pressure-tested.
From source to flame
The path starts at your supply — a natural-gas main along the Asheville or Hendersonville corridor, or a propane tank if you're out in the cabins. From there we route the line to the patio, penetrate the wall or come up from underground through a protective sleeve, and finish with a riser and shut-off valve right at the feature so you can cut fuel without walking to the tank.
Buried sections get set to code depth with marker tape above them, so the next person who digs knows a live line is there.
Sizing for the burn
Outdoor features are hungry. A gas fire pit like Napoleon's Uptown square runs 60,000 BTU on propane — more than most indoor gas fireplaces — and an outdoor fireplace can pull more still. If the line is undersized or shares capacity with your grill and range, you get a weak, lazy, sometimes sooty flame that never looks right.
We do a load calculation up front so the pipe diameter carries the full demand at proper pressure. That's the difference between a fire pit that roars to life and one that sputters.
