How much does it cost to put a gas fireplace in a basement?

Two very different Asheville basements

Newer South and West Asheville builds on slope lots come with walkout basements already framed. The walkout is the cheaper vent path every time: a direct-vent firebox punches straight out the exposed wall. A fully below-grade Montford basement asks the vent to climb up and out, which adds run and labor.
