Many Backgrounds. One Standard.
Sylva, North Carolina

How much does it cost to reface or update the look of an existing fireplace?

In Sylva, the reface number depends a lot on which building we're in — a hard-used WCU-area rental versus a historic Dillsboro cottage are different jobs. It's cosmetic work priced under replacement, but Jackson County's river-valley moisture means we check the firebox and flue behind the face before quoting the finish.

Rentals and historic cottages, two budgets

Student and rental housing near Western Carolina gets heavy, inconsistent use, so a reface there is often paired with catching up on deferred maintenance — a clean, durable surround that survives tenants and a firebox brought back to safe working order. Historic Dillsboro is the other end: 19th-century cottages with older masonry chimneys where the goal is refreshing the look without erasing the character, sometimes just repointing and a new mantel rather than a full skin. Tell us the building and the wall, and we'll frame the range before we make the drive.

The Tuckasegee valley is rough on flues

Cold-air drainage and river moisture down the Tuckasegee valley rust dampers and degrade flue liners fast, so in Sylva the smart move is to look behind the pretty face first. If you're adding a gas or wood insert, the liner has to be right — a correctly sized stainless liner is part of doing it safely. Any gas line we run is licensed work we permit with Jackson County and pressure-test before it burns; a mason can build the surround but can't legally connect the fuel. We handle both from one crew, so nothing beautiful gets built over a problem.

Worth the drive to see materials

Sylva is about 50 minutes west of our Emma Road showroom, so rather than making you guess from a screen, we'll bring stone, tile, and mantel samples to you for a free in-home look and stage them against the actual wall and light. Or come handle them at 629 Emma Road first. Call (828) 545-0525 to set it up.
