How much does the finishing work — stone surround, mantel, tile — add to a fireplace project?

It's the flexible layer, and the easiest to postpone — run the new unit through winter on a primed wall and add stone in spring. What isn't flexible is the fuel and appliance work: on a propane lot a licensed gas contractor sets the regulator, piping, and LP orifices before anything decorative happens.
