How often should a ventless gas fireplace be cleaned and inspected?
Clean and inspect a ventless gas fireplace once a year in Arden, late summer. Many homes in Royal Pines and Skyland have tired, drafty open masonry fireplaces, and owners sometimes drop a vent-free log set in for real heat. That works, but a vent-free set in an oversized old firebox needs its room size and clearances confirmed at the annual visit to stay within the rules.
From draft to real heat
Arden's 1980s and 90s homes came with open masonry fireplaces that pull warm air out of the room instead of adding it. A vent-free log set is one way people turn that dead space into heat, since it keeps nearly all its warmth in the room. Whichever route you took, the yearly service keeps a vent-free unit safe and clean: vacuum the burner and ports, reset the logs so a bumped one doesn't soot, and clean and test the oxygen depletion sensor that shuts the gas off if room oxygen drops.
