That same tendency is why carbon monoxide from a blocked flue is especially dangerous in Candler: a gas or propane fireplace with its draft choked by a nest produces CO that has nowhere to disperse quickly. It's colorless and odorless, so detectors on every level aren't a nicety — they're the thing that warns you.
Clear it, cap it, upgrade if it's time
