Is it safe to install a wood stove in a mobile home?
Yes, though Flat Rock's manufactured homes follow a completely different rulebook than its famous historic ones. A wood stove is safe in a single-wide only when it's listed for mobile homes, drawing combustion air from a dedicated outside duct, anchored to the floor, on a listed hearth pad with verified clearances, and vented by a listed close-clearance chimney. A manufactured home is the opposite engineering problem. It's lightweight, tightly sealed, and factory-built, so it can't borrow the old-house logic of a big masonry chimney and room air feeding the fire. HUD requires the stove to be specifically listed for mobile and manufactured homes and to pull its combustion air from outside — because a sealed home that draws burn air from its rooms can depressurize and reverse the flue. Different structure, different code. Ridge and valley evenings here stay cool late into spring, so the stove has to heat, not just glow.
What a compliant single-wide install takes
The stove's data tag has to say mobile/manufactured-home approved, then it's anchored to the floor, set on a listed hearth pad sized to the stove, given clearances per its listing with heat shields where the floor plan is tight, and vented through a listed chimney with a proper cap.
