Should I repair or replace my old gas fireplace?

In Mills River, many homes run on propane, and that shapes the answer: a wrong-orifice or converted unit that soots or won't hold flame is worth diagnosing before you spend, because it may be a setup issue, not a dead fireplace. Sound units get cheap-part repairs; replace when the firebox, vent, or parts are gone.

Propane changes the diagnosis

Mills River is rural, large-lot Henderson County — farmland and forest, and plenty of homes on propane rather than a gas main. Propane burns hotter per unit and needs different orifices and pressures than natural gas, so a fireplace that soots the glass, burns lazy, or keeps dropping out isn't automatically a replacement candidate; sometimes it's a fuel or conversion setup that was never dialed in right. We check that first. Where the unit is genuinely sound, the common failures — thermocouple, valve, igniter, blower — are inexpensive parts and quick labor, quoted before we start any work.

When to replace, and the outdoor angle

We tilt toward a new unit when the firebox is cracked, the venting is unsafe, or the part's discontinued — and for propane country, a Kozy Heat Springfield or a sealed direct-vent model is a strong, cabin-tough replacement. This open valley is also outdoor-living country, so if you're already opening a gas line, late spring is the time to plan a gas fire pit before entertaining season arrives. We're a licensed gas contractor: we pull the Henderson County permit and meet the inspector. A diagnostic tells you which way to go. Call (828) 545-0525.

One accountable company

Whether it turns out to be a repair or a full replacement, you're not stitching the job across a showroom, a propane tech, and someone else licensed to actually make it burn. We handle the appliance, the propane connection, the Henderson County permit, and the inspection ourselves, and we stand behind all of it. A free in-home assessment is the only honest way to land on your real number for a rural, large-lot property out here.
