What does a natural gas to propane conversion kit actually change?
In Canton, a lot of natural-gas-to-propane conversions trace back to flood-damaged hearths being replaced — and it's a mixed-fuel town, so the new appliance has to match your actual gas. The kit swaps burner and pilot orifices for propane, fits a regulator or valve spring for the higher pressure, and resets the air shutter. Heat output and firebox design don't change.
After the water: match the fuel, inspect the line
Recent flooding in the Pigeon River valley water-damaged hearths and gas appliances across Canton, and replacements are still going in. When a new or salvaged unit lands in a propane home, it needs the propane kit — but just as important, we inspect every gas connection the water reached. A conversion is only as safe as the line feeding it, and flood-touched piping and valves get scrutinized before we ever light a flame.
Valley damp works against your equipment
Canton's valley-floor fog and morning dampness rust dampers and chimney caps earlier than folks expect, and that same moisture is hard on gas connections. If we're converting an appliance here, we're also checking for corrosion on the fuel train and venting. Getting the orifices right means nothing if the joint behind them is compromised.
Permitted with Haywood County
We pull the permit with Haywood County where the work calls for it and meet the inspector — a paper trail that matters even more on a rebuilt or repaired home. Every conversion ends with a manifold-pressure check and a leak test on each joint we opened. Canton is about 20 minutes west of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
