What is ember bed or accent lighting inside a gas fireplace?
Ember-bed lighting is the glowing bed of embers beneath a gas fire — often enhanced with LED accent lights that make the coals shimmer, and on some models keep glowing with the flame off. Accent lighting adds up-lighting or interior LEDs to highlight the logs, glass, or panels. Both add depth, warmth, and a finished look.
Ember beds: the glow under the flame
A convincing gas fire needs a believable ember bed — the smoldering coals under the logs. Traditionally this was glowing rock wool and reflective ember material catching the flame; today many premium units add LED lighting beneath the media so the embers shimmer and pulse, deepening the realism. The nicest touch: on a number of modern fireplaces the ember and accent LEDs run independently of the burner, so you can have a soft glow with no flame at all — ambiance in summer, without the heat.
Accent and interior lighting
Beyond the ember bed, accent lighting means LED strips or spots built into the firebox to wash light over the logs, fire glass, or interior panels.
