What are the interior media options for a gas fireplace?
Gas fireplace interior media falls into a few families: traditional log sets, from realistic split-oak to driftwood and birch; fire glass in dozens of colors; natural media like river rock and lava rock; and modern shapes like glass geometrics and fire balls. You can also change the interior panel — black glass, brick, or herringbone — behind whichever media you pick.
Logs, from traditional to driftwood
The classic choice is a log set, and today's are convincing — Real Fyre's hand-painted sets are cast from real oak, and the split-oak and PHAZER logs in our Majestic and Napoleon units look like a genuine wood fire at a glance.
Beyond traditional, log sets come in driftwood and white-birch styles that read cleaner and more coastal or modern. Logs suit almost every fireplace, which is why most gas units ship with them.
Glass, natural stone, and geometric media
If you want a contemporary look, fire glass is the go-to — tumbled tempered glass in a wide range of colors that catches the flame and sparkles. Natural options like river rock and lava rock give an organic, understated bed.
And for a fully modern statement there are glass geometric shapes and fire balls in matte black, white, or gray — clean forms that make a linear fireplace look sculptural. The media you choose sets the entire personality of the flame.
Don't forget the back panel — and how swaps work
Behind the media, the interior panel matters just as much for the look. A reflective black-glass panel adds depth and drama, while brick or herringbone panels give warmth and texture — and both help the firebox look good even when it's off.
One important note: you can't mix and match freely. Media has to be the type approved and configured for your specific burner, and the panel has to fit the unit — this isn't a swap to improvise, because the wrong arrangement can affect how the appliance burns.
