Jackson County's river valley combines cold-air drainage with steady moisture off the Tuckasegee, and the local result is well documented — dampers rust and flue liners degrade faster here than the calendar suggests, something Dillsboro's older masonry chimneys demonstrate on nearly every block. For a cabin, design that problem out from the start: a stainless Class A chimney instead of site-built masonry for the F1500, a proper cap to keep river-valley damp out of the flue, and sealed direct venting on the propane side so there's no open damper to corrode at all. Then put one service visit on the calendar each late summer — with the drive time between here and our shop, the goal is a system that needs us once a year, not once a month.

Distance doesn't loosen the rules: cabin work here still gets a permit pulled with your county and an inspector's sign-off, and that paperwork is what protects the insurance on the place.
