When the mountain won't give you a chimney
Marshall's building lots are famously unforgiving — steep hillside homes with limited access, and a revitalized downtown of narrow, multi-story buildings set directly against the mountainside. On lots like these, routing a chimney is often the most expensive line of the whole project, and the terrain disturbs draft even when you succeed. Direct-vent solves both problems at once: a sealed coaxial pipe exits through a sidewall, no vertical flue required, and sealed combustion doesn't care what the gorge wind is doing outside.
Long evenings in the gorge, tanks up the hollows
The French Broad gorge keeps Marshall's evenings cool and damp for much of the year — a longer fireplace season than the calendar suggests. Fuel is mixed here: parts of town reach gas while the hollows run propane, and on steep properties we walk the site with tank placement and line routing in mind before we quote anything, because access is half the job in Madison County. For the units, the Springfield 36 covers the heating work; the Cosmo 42 suits the lofted, modern interiors going into downtown's revived buildings, with a linear flame and a wall above cool enough for a television.

Licensed gas work doesn't get waived for difficult terrain — we run and pressure-test every LP line, pull the permit, and meet the inspector on every Marshall job, same as anywhere we work.
